ROZ

There’s something special about life in rural Kansas. Something authentic and wholesome making it an ideal place to live, work and raise a family. If you want a lower cost of living and better quality of life, the Rural Opportunity Zones program can help make this vision a reality.

Kansas has 77 counties designated as Rural Opportunity Zones (ROZ) authorized to offer the following incentives to qualified individuals: 1) a Kansas individual income tax waiver for up to five years; and 2) student loan repayments assistance up to $15,000 over a five-year period.

The Kansas Department of Commerce administers the student loan repayments program. To qualify, an individual must satisfactorily document:
  1. Establishment of full-time residency in a ROZ county on or after the date the county began participating in the program;
  2. Attainment of an associate’s, bachelor’s or post-graduate degree from an accredited educational institution; and
  3. An outstanding student loan balance.
PLEASE NOTE: Participation in the ROZ student loan repayments program is subject to:
  1. The individual’s qualification; and
  2. The availability of county funds or employer sponsorship monies to match State repayments
